All books I reviewed drawing inspiration from the divine comedy combined

Hello there!

This is another combination article but this time it is about the books drawing inspiration from the divine comedy. In order by reading them; Inferno by Dan Brown (then the notes I took while reading it), then The dante club by Matthew Pearl.

Inferno by Dan Brown

Hello there,

This is the complete review of this book, and there is another complete edition on this with the notes ofcourse. But now I will review it.

Robert Langdon, finds himself in a hospital with amnesia and a shotwound and the only english speaking doctor is called in to talk to him and there is some misunderstanding but nothing is what it seems ofcourse like with any mystery novel.

A hitman comes to kill Langdon, kills a doctor and Sienna Brooks and Langdon escape the hospital, they seem to be good at running but the goverment and the hitman (who is actually a woman) are seemingly still after them and they go on a runn starting in florence going to florence and ending in Istanbul.

Along the way more and more is revealed about the consortium a kind of organisation that provides alibi's to rich clients. This time they're working for a doctor called Zobrist but they don't know what he is planning (neither do we for the full extent but thats besides the point) who is obsessed with dante's inferno and is severely against the growth of the population as it is.

So he (Zobrist) comes up with a plan to reduce the population and even threathens the WHO to help in that doesn't work at all. So the guy goes rogue and creates a virus. This virus drives the entire plot as it drives the hunt to undo the dangers of this virus Zobrist has created.

Bit by bit more and more of the scheming by the consortium is revealed and they start working together with Langdon (they actually abducted him to keep an eye on him) placing them even further in the grey area as they aren't the original bad guys just helping the and now they are on the good side of things.

Going to the aya sophia they find out that they're already to late but fear not the virus is not deadly and Sienna was in Zobrist camp for some reason as she was kind of in love with him and the two were lovers for a while. Sienna reveals the true nature the virus, it makes people infertile instead of killing them outright. And Zobrist had set the magic number of people on 1/3,

My opinion about this book is that it seems to be that the author has a fear of overpopulation and that it will create a kind of hell on earth for the people living here and that he is outing his own personal fears trough his work.

His characters are seemingly either for it or wanting to start the deate on either it is ethical or not to make people randomly infertile. And it is not willingly to the people, nobody can choose who and when.

I don't think that this virus would be in need of making at all in my opinion as studies have shown that the level of education has an impact on the amount children couples have together with smart policies this has the same effect on population control without hindering anyones potential of happiness as for some people even the potential of having children is a way to achieve happiness. As much as it is a form of social rules that one has to have children to achieve a complete life.
I give this movie a 7 out of ten as it kept me on my toes for the entirety of me reading the book.

Notes on Inferno by Dan Brown

Hello there

This is just an overview of my impressions on the book that I am reading at the momentt since yesterday I published the second impressions

First impressions on Inferno

I've read the first 100 pages of inferno by Dan Brown and it kind of got me hooked on it but I cannot put it down when I pick it up but I kind off can't focus on it to keep on reading. Which is kind of a shame.

Here are some kind of notes from reading it
  • Nobody knows what is happenning in this book and this is the mystery
  • Robert Langdon is in florence, Italy
  • it seems that the american goverment is trying to kill the guy
  • there is this secret organisation called the consortium which are mercenaries
  • The Consortium are a means for bad guys
  • Their latest client is obsessed with Dante's Inferno for some reason
  • it seems that that unknown bad guy wants to bring the end of time trough the Consortium
  • what is going on?
  • How will it go on?
This is kind of everything for now, I will be back with more. I hope it will be soon!

Second impression on inferno By Dan Brown

Hello there,
I am posting this article,
to share my progress on Inferno By Dan Brown but I will keep it short and in the style of the first impressions of the book.
For the record, you can find that article of my first impressions Here !
  •   With Sienna Brooks, an english woman living in florence, Robert Langdom is still on the run
  • The city of Florence is closed by the police all sorts of them like federal police and the military police and ofcourse the regular local police
  • The duo is going trough some kind of palace build by the renesaince princes and get captured after a while by who seem like some kind of secondary baddies
  • The main baddy is treathening the boss of the world health organisation in person because he thinks that there to many people on the planet
  • He thinks that the bourbonic plague is the best thing that happened to europe in like ever
  • The death mask of Dante is stolen by Langdon and some professor that is why they are closed off by the museum keeper and eventually released because only Langdon can find it
  • the original hitman hired to kill Langdon was fired because she failed The Consortium
  • the goverment might not be willing to kill Langdon?
  • Langdon, when he was brought into the hospital where he met Sianna Brooks wasn't muttering very sorry but vasari which was a famous painter back in the day
I just tought this song which I am linking in here was in its place on this article

Notes on Inferno, By Dan Brown 3

These are the third part of the notes on this book, and there will still be 2 more of these I think before the complete review comes along
But first let us get trough the list will we?
  • So Venice it is Sianna and Langdon look for a grave of a doge that ordered the head of some statue of horses be decapitated in order to ship them from istanbul to Venice, now they still serve as decoration for the cathedral on the san marco cathedral but his grave is not there
  • The Ceo of the who is called by the consortium and now they seem to have become some sort of allies.
  • The abduction of Langdon is now complete and it is revealed he was abducted all along but was under the illusion he was free and people were trying to capture him, all set up by the consortium, even Sienna was in this plot but now her loyalty is in question.
  • They were the ones to wipe Langdon's memory with chemicals and faked his headwound
This is what I my notes are for this part of the book.

Notes on Inferno by Dan Brown: Before the epilogue

This is going to be the before last article of my notes on this book before the review will take place. The combination of the articles not included ofcourse
So here we go on the notes in the usual style:
  • So Sianna and robert get separated like stated before and robert is captured as we've discussed
  • The consurtium is now working together with the WHO placing them in some sort of grey area
  • Langdon and this alliance between the who and the consotium are now the good guy team apparently
  • They make their way to istanbull when the dubious doge in the aya sophia.
  • Sianna was part of everything from the beginning
  • It is revealed that the virus makes people infertile and it is aselect. Only making people infertile 1/3 of the people will become infertile

Notes on the epilogue of Inferno By dan Brown.

Well hello there,
Here I am discussing the last couple of pages and the epilogue of Inferno by Dan Brown, after this post there will be a combination of all the articles and then a complete review and later a complete combination.
So here we go!
  • It is a vague ending
  • Once again, the virus that Zobrist created isn't deadly at all it is only making one third of people infertile to control the population not to eradicatethem
  • Tough some characters seem to be up for some kind of population ccontrol, Sienna is 100% for which I kinda expected. But the director of the WHO has not decided yet but certainly comes accros to be open minded
  • To me what is more important is that Robert Langdon seems to be willing to start the debate on such population control to start already
  • The ending is quite a lame ending in my opinion
So like I said at the start, the complete review is coming soon.

The dante club By Matthew Pearl

So I have finally finished this book after months of “reading” it and I am happy I can finally shove it aside. And I will try to keep this article short!

So the dante club is about a club of gentlemen in Boston right after the american civil war trying to solve a series of murders taking place.

Not to my surprise this is a club for the translation of the divine comedy and the murders are in the style of Dante's punishments in hell. Because the dante club is convinced that the police is incapable of solving the murders so they take it upon itself to solve it so they start to mingle in the investigation on the first murder.

Then alot more murders and investigations start to happening. And everything is gonna be more and more difficult to solve and at the end ofcourse goes well and they solve the mystery.

My opinion about the book is that there is to much filler in the book to make book intresting. It makes the book to slow paced in my opinion. I think that it is still kind of intresting because of the social issues of that time being shown in the states ofcourse. The people portrayed by this book in the dante club seem so fucking condesending and because of the filler in the book the story seems so unintresting. I give this book a 5,5/10
