Playing for time (1980)

This is a historical movie set in the concentration camp auswitch, where we follow a Jewish female singer that is quite the famous person In Paris.
But then she is send to the concentration camp

Here in the concentration camp is where the story of this movie really starts to take off after a trainride to the location, she is picked up by the marching band that plays music to calm the people about to be gassed in a gaschamber, here she plays the piano, and doesn't partake in the marching band but has to perform for the SS people like doctor Mengele.
She saves a female she met on the train by enlisting her into the orchestra and little by little time goes forward and we get to see every crime against humanity ever done in that place including the hunger the people going for the gassing and the cremation of the bodies. Prostitution for food and some commodities like ciggarettes is rampant in the camp.
All the while philosophical debates about the implication of what is happening is going about, the main character is on nobodies side and us just trying to stay alive and save as many people as possible and all the while trying to find food to survive and keeping everyone calm.
Nearer and nearer to the end the allies get closer and closer but then the orchestra gets moved and they're rescued by British soldiers for some reason.
then the movie ends

My opinion about this movie is that I like it very much. Not the holocaust but this movie and its storyline. It is filmed in low coloured film which gives it the pro that it can switch to historical footage without pulling you out of the movie at all and that adds to the narrative quite nice and it is heavy on the emotional mind and the rational mind. This movie plays on both in one and the same narrative. I will give this movie 10/10 this is the first time in the history of the blog this is the highest rating for a movie I have given!
