The boy in the striped pyjama's (2008)
Again, a movie set in world war two. No scrap that a movie about something hitler caused but instead of his rise to power, a movie about the holocaust a horrific event that shaped modern history. Lucky that the movie based on the novel by John boye isn't horrific.
It is a sad movie tough as bruno our protagonist, has to leave his home in Berlin after the father of the family has been given a promotion in the SS.
This means that they're moving but it isn't immidiatly clear where there are going to move. They move to the country side and it is being clear from the move onward that the father of the family is the boss of the nearby concentration camp.
The story continues in the settling of the family and how they're going to live their lives here. Bruno still having no friends wanders off eventually comes accros the concentration camp. He visits often because he met a boy around his age. Still not realising what is happening around him, he has to be told the jew is the enemy of the German people because Hitler said so. His father also strictly believing in this (which was almost a requirement for the SS). And a private tutor gives these kids lessons in Nazism instead of a proper education.
Life goes on, Bruno gives more and more food to the kid in the camp and eventually after seeing how the camps are like in a propaganda movie, he wants to join in the camp because its all fun and games in their unlike his friend best effort to make clear that it is the other way around. Once inside, Bruno asks to go to the cafe instead of where they are now and as bad luck would have it, their hut was chosen to go into something much worse..
My opinion on this movie is that it is a bit of a tearjerker, but the irony at the end. The irony at the end of the movie is deserved by the father of the family how undeserving the child was as he did not understand a thing of what the actual fuck was going on with the world at the time and what his family was doing there so near to the camp.
I will give this movie 9.5/10 because karma is a bitch really
