Sandcastle (2017, a netflix original)

I will now review this movie made by netflix for netflix, an American war movie set during the Iraq war during and right after the battle of baghdad. I must say that it's better than it sounds as this isn't a piece of American propaganda in my opinion.

We follow one particular soldier called ocard? and his unit ofcourse. It is revealed that he joined the reserves for the college money but was called in when the Iraq war! He tries to get out in the most stereotypical way by injuring his hand with a hummer.
Guess what? He still has to stay and has to ride out to capture the Iraqi capital where he has to fight alot but eventually the Americans capture it anyway but this isn't the focus of the story anyway. The focus of the story lies in the aftermath of this, mainly in the occupation of Iraq.

They get send out to repair a waterpumping station that had been damaged by an attack helicopter shooting a truck filled with explosives and they have to repair it. Insert difficulties with the local sheik, the seemingly unwillingness of the local population to help repairing it alongside the Americans out of fear of the resistance. Eventually, after some battle against the resistance, they convince a local school to help out and this leads to the boss of the school getting killed and set on fire for this.

The story doesn't end here however, the brother of the guy that got burned tells the Americans where the hideout from the resistance is. And they raid it, ofcourse some injuries occur and they get their workers back, but there is an attack on the pumping station and it gets blown up by the resistance our guy gets send home and needs to go back home, but he doesn't want to...

My opinion is that this movie is a good one, it depiction of modern war is kind of safe for work for the most time and I like it that it isn't to violent at all. Most of the battle scene's are in a style that it doens't glorify violence but the typical movie soldier (american soldier) is being displayed.
I give this episode 8/10 strawberries!
